About the Artist, That’s Me

I exhibited an interest in art at an early age, growing up in West Texas.  At the age of 13 my family moved to Phoenix, Arizona.  As I became an adult, I decided to pursue a career in architecture in Arizona, Washington, and Colorado, eventually ending up back in the Texas Hill Country.

After establishing my own practice, I was fortunate to receive numerous awards for my designs of single family custom homes. In 1998, I was recognized as one of the Masters of the Southwest by Phoenix Home and Garden Magazine. A rewarding career certainly, but not without its limitations.

When I was involved in the process of architectural design, there was a great deal of criteria to be considered for each project. First, the needs of my Clients of course, but also the limitations of Building Codes, Design Review Committees and Associations, cost control and budgets, as well as physical limitations such as structure and building systems. These all had to be addressed in the overall design process for the completion of a successful project. Don’t get me wrong…I loved architecture and working with my Clients to help them create the homes of their dreams. And, I enjoyed becoming friends in the process. But as I grew older, I thought, “Maybe I should try my hand at something else…something like…ART!

In the Spring of 2024, I decided to make a life changing decision. Retire from my work as an architect and ignore Horace Greeley’s advice and instead, “Go East, old man.” I found myself in Frederick, Maryland. Beautiful, wonderful old Frederick, Maryland. Only a few minutes from my family (or at least most of it) to start my new career as an artist. Better late than Never, I say.

I have found in art, the only limitations are my imagination…ART…where have you been all my life? Each work I start takes on a life of its own. Never finishing where I originally intended. This adventure. This joy of discovery is the stuff of dreams and I Love it. I hope it shows! And recently, I was honored by my newly adopted hometown when one of my works, “Frederick Feelings”, was chosen as the Judge’s Choice Award in the annual Holiday Art Competition with the right to represent the 2025 promotional campaign for The Holidays in Historic Frederick.

I invite you to continue to follow my progress by reviewing my Gallery of work as it grows. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do creating them, or, I should say, helping them create themselves. Use the Contact Me option if you have any questions about my work, or where it can be seen or purchased, where available.
